Carrier, Hudson River
The objects depicted in my photographs, Carrier, Hudson River and Carrier, North Atlantic are based on an 18th century shipping case made to transport breadfruit saplings from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Once remade with my hands, these forms began to allude to architecture, cages, even masks. I asked swimmers to guide my objects into New York's historic waterways, inviting expanded readings about trade, migration, labor, and ecology.
